The foundation day of Sri Aurobindo’s Action (Kolkata unit) was celebrated at Maha Bodhi Society Hall at 4A, Bankim Chatterjee Street onFriday, 29 July 2011.
The programme started at 6 p.m.with the Mother’s Music. It continued for two hours. In the opening part of it, the members of the Kolkata unit of Sri Aurobindo’s Action took an oath with the following prayer to the Mother in French followed by the recitation its Bengali translation:
“Douce Mére, Ce’st pour-toi,
Que nous travaillons Ce’st pour-toi,
Que nous vivons Ce’st pour-toi,
Soit avec nous, chaque moments de notre vie”.
This was followed by the formal announcement of the programme by Shri Asim Ghosal. Vedic mantras were then chanted by Shrimati Bratati Mukhopadhyay ending with Rishi Sambanan Angirasa’s Samjnana Sukta with its Bengali rendering. Savitri (Book I, Canto 5) in English and Bengali were read by Shri Badal Chakraborty, Chairman, Sri Aurobindo’s Action, and Shrimati. Reshmi Chakraborty respectively. Dr. Sushama Pradhan rendered a few songs composed by Rabindranath Tagore which was followed by the reading of the opening essay from Sri Aurobindo’s The Hour of God in English by Shri Asim Ghosal. A prayer from the Mother’s Prayers and Meditations was read in French and Bengali respectively by Paramita and Dr. Sushama Pradhan. A question and answer session based on the Sri Aurobindo’s Savitri was organised by Shri Kshiti Dutta comprising a group of participants from the audiences.
Shri Anurag Banerjee, Founder and Chairman of Overman Foundation, delivered a brief talk on the history, objectives and significance of Sri Aurobindo’s action.
The programme ended with the rendition of Rabindra-sangeet by Shrimati Sumitra Khasnabish followed by the same collective oath read in French and Bengali as was done in the beginning part of the programme. Dr. J.L. Banerjee from Suri, Birbhum apprised all about the warm reception of the messages of Sri Aurobindo’s Savitri by the people of Bangladesh when he visited along with his team to Dacca and other places at Bangladesh in course of making programmes on Savitri.
The programme ended with the distribution of Mother’s calendar and a full size photograph of Sri Aurobindo along with the Prasad packets both to the participants and the audiences.
